Mom said "Always wear your seatbelt". LOL. : D

However, she also taught me how to SEW, and the importance of ironing, both of which are invaluable!

the greatest advice my mom ever gave me was to treat others how i would like to be treated.

My mom probably didn't know she was giving me advice. She died accidentally when I was 13. Two weeks before her death, she was driving me home and said "It is nice to know if something happened to me you are smart enough that you would be alright."It was strange how she said that and how life turned out soon after. Sense then, I have worked hard, stayed smart and got myself into college. Even when things are tough, I always remind myself that as long as I am smart about my decisions, I will be alright.

My mom has always said that the story of our lives are painted onto a canvas. We, as artists, determine every inch of the painting with our decisions, and it is up to us to create a beautiful finished product.

Always take time to be a kid. Not something she told me, just something I learned. She always has fun with life and never takes it too seriously. =)

"Take everything one at a time," (My mom)in regards to when you have a heaping pile of things stressing you out...you won't be able to fix anything by overwhelming yourself with all of it at one time...it's much easier to save your sanity to deal with it one at a time. BEST advice that I adhere to at least once a week!

My mom's best advice is
"I hope you never make the same mistakes I've made, but I don't wish for you to avoid making your own mistakes. My life is full of mistakes. They’re like pebbles that make a good road."

She said something along those lines, but definitely what I will be passing on to my kids.

My mom would say, "never settle," and while that has probably contributed to my head often being off in fairytale land, it has also led me to many fulfilling accomplishments.

The best advice my mum ever gave me was when I was TERRIFIED to talk to this adorable boy in an art history lecture. After listening to me talk about how he was so beautiful, I could never manage to say a sentence to him, she turned to me and said:

"Just walk up to him and kiss him then, you wuss!"

In the most loving way of course. :)
Love you mum.

I'm from France, and my mother's best advice is a french saying: "tourne ta langue 7 fois dans ta bouche avant de t'exprimer", meaning :"turn your tongue in your mouth 7 times before you speak". Taking a few seconds to think about how you're going to express yourself, is always a good idea, especially in any emotional situation.

A month or two ago, my best friend decided that she was too good for me and ran off with my boyfriend, who she poisoned against me. My mom was there for me through my self-doubting and sadness. Her advice was something I'll never forget.

"Lauren. You are weird. Very weird...but ALWAYS stay true to who you are, regardless of how different that may be! Your weirdness was way to awesome for them to handle and you are far better off without them. Besides, you're so weird it's cute." :)

It the was the first time I had a broken heart, and my mom's words gave me warmth and reflexion.

"Don't let yourself breakdown from this circumstance. This situation life has gifted to you, take it and learn from it. Because you will acquire strength and dignity. Better things are coming for you, because I have taught you well and there is no reason why you deserve misfortunes. Don't be afraid of change, enjoy your youth and everyone here that loves you."

"We're all in this together" Despite a lonely childhood, 2 emotionally distant husbands and long-term depression, my mom is still able to recognize that who she is in the world impacts others. When I am feeling neurotic, self centered and tragic, her wisdom keeps me reaching out to others. She is such a gift to me.

"If someone doesn't like you, or says mean or bad things about you, it has more to do with them than it does you. It has to do with how they feel about themselves, and how they view the world. If your friends become angry or want to end the friendship, take the opportunity to center yourself, to look inward, to be alone for a while. Being alone is an art, and it doesn't mean you have to be lonely. The more you are content by yourself and are satisfied with yourself and know yourself.. the more you can have meaningful relationships with others. Treat "alone-ness" as a sacred space where creativity & wisdom can flourish." LOVE YOU MOM; you're my best friend. :)
