Picture This: How to Use Textures

Textures are a fun and easy way to manipulate your pictures and it's a technique we use all the time. Here's a quick and easy Photoshop tutorial to get you started!

before
Step 1.
In Photoshop, open up the photo you want to manipulate along with 2 different backgrounds you want to use as textures. We are using an old paper background and bokeh. Create a new background copy layer for your main image.

Step 2.
Drag the 1st texture over to your main image. Adjust Opacity and Fill to your liking. Play around with different layer adjustments like Overlay and Multiply to achieve different effects.

Step 3.
Repeat with your second texture.

Step 4. Drag your background copy layer above the the 2 texture layers you just created and turn down the opacity. You are basically using this background copy as an additional texture.

Step 5. Play around with the order and arrangement of your layer until you've reached a desired effect.

*Disclaimer: As fun as using textures can be, they are best when used sparingly.

Great tutorial! I have to try this on my pictures.

On a side note, do you know if you are going to get more of the event planner's yellow belt?
